Witchcraft

Janet Walker, the Fittie Witch

Footdee (Fittie) and the Tolbooth, Aberdeen

17th century

Very little detail is on record in the public sources consulted. The Tolbooth Museum tells her story as a way of showing the fears of 17th century Aberdonians and how people suspected of witchcraft were treated, and has staged an interrogation by the gaoler as part of a Doors Open Day programme. The page does not say how her case ended.

The story is recorded here because it is part of Aberdeen's witchcraft memory, but anyone wanting facts should look for her in the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft or the burgh records rather than rely on a museum summary.
