The Fairy Tailor of Agneash

Agneash, above Laxey, Lonan

A tailor was at work in a house in Agneash, the kind of travelling tailor who went from farm to farm making up clothes. He ran short of thread and said he would go and get some. He was back in forty minutes, with thread bought from Kneale the draper in Parliament Street, Ramsey.

Ramsey is five or six miles from Agneash over the hills. Nobody could walk there and back in forty minutes, and the household could think of only one explanation: the fairies had carried him through the air. After that he was known as the Fairy Tailor. Gill notes that Agneash was a place where the fairies were constantly about.

Agneash is a small hamlet reached by a public road from Laxey.
