The House of the Screaming Lady, Alderney

Cottage near the corner of Longis Road and Valongis, Alderney

Recorded 2010 and 2023

Longis Road runs east from St Anne towards Longis Bay and the Nunnery, the old Roman fort. Valongis is a small road of houses on the way. According to the Devil's Rock authors, one cottage near the junction has a local reputation as the home of a screaming woman, seen covered in blood.

That is almost all that can be said from the available sources. The podcast episode is described as "a short unpacking of the various aspects of a ghost story", and the full account is in the audio and the book rather than in print online. Nothing in the material seen gives a date for the haunting, an identity for the woman, or an explanation of the blood.

It is included on the map because it is one of the few Alderney ghost stories tied to a specific street corner, and because Alderney is thinly covered. The confidence tag reflects a single source whose authors say they mix fact with invention. The cottage is a private home, and the map point is approximate.

The cottage is a private house; view only from the road.
