The waterfront at Caernarfon was a working quay for centuries, and the building that is now the Anglesey Arms is described as a former customs house. Local tradition places a site of executions nearby, which is used to explain its most unpleasant story: the apparition of someone hanging by the neck in the bar.
The rest of the reported activity is the kind common to old pubs. Glasses kept on high shelves are said to move on their own, footsteps are heard upstairs when the rooms are empty, and there is the sound of keys rattling, as if someone were still going round locking up. Guests staying the night have described an unseen presence in their rooms.
None of it has been written up in any detail, and the story of the hanging figure in particular has no documented execution attached to it. It is recorded here as local pub lore.
