The Phantom Workman of Bwlch and Bronwen of Penrhiwgoch

Also known as: Baglan ghosts

Bwlch and Penrhiwgoch, on the hills above Baglan

At the place known as Bwlch, above the ruins of the Cwmavon ironworks, the apparition of a "shadowy, human form" is said to come along the path and stop at the gate leading to Tylefedwen Farm. Some believe it is the ghost of a worker killed at the ironworks in days gone by, though no particular accident is named.

Not far away, the area called Penrhiwgoch is said to be the haunt of Bronwen, described as "a fair young maiden", who has been seen wandering there on summer nights. Nothing is said about who she was or why she walks.

These are two thin, book-derived reports. They are grouped here because they share a hillside and a source, and because they are among the few ghosts recorded for the uplands behind Port Talbot.

The hills above Baglan are crossed by public paths; Tylefedwen Farm and Penrhiwgoch are not precisely located here.
