The same source says Sir Michael Scott the wizard once lived at the castle and that guests were served by ghosts he collected. That belongs to the Michael Scot legend, recorded separately. There is no date for the stonemason's hanging, and the piper in a cave motif is very common in Scottish lore, so the legend should be treated as folklore.
