The White Figure of Bannockburn, 1929

Bannockburn, Bluebell Wood, The Haugh and Balquidderock Wood

May to October 1929

These reports were gathered by the Stirling City Heritage Trust and read as drawn from contemporary reports. They are unusual for having a physical outcome: a search party found a real man emerging from a haystack, and a youth fired a revolver at a figure that ran away, neither of which sounds like a spirit. Local people at the time were clearly treating the figure as something between a ghost and a prowler.

The records are set out as they were reported. No conclusion about the identity of the figure is given in the source, and it is possible that more than one person, or an ordinary trespasser, was involved.
