The Old Police Station at Bargoed

Old police station and magistrates' court, Bargoed

Police stations and courts gather ghost stories among the people who work nights in them, and the old station at Bargoed in the Rhymney valley was no exception. It combined offices, cells and the former magistrates' court in one old building.

According to the Great British Ghost Tour, some employees would not stay there alone at night if they could help it. People working downstairs heard footsteps overhead when no one was up there. Others saw a shadowy figure pass in front of them on the top corridor.

A similar tradition is recorded for the old police station at Pontlottyn, at the top of the same valley, where officers would not go in alone and a long-retired sergeant was seen. Both are single-source workplace stories without dates.

A police or former police building; not open to the public.
