Lady Gray of Graymount

Gray's Lane, Graymount, north Belfast

Undated

Gray's Lane runs in the Graymount area of north Belfast. Spirited Isle gives the story of Lady Gray of Graymount, which exists in several versions. One widely repeated account says her two children died by suicide after a cruel act by their father, and that Lady Gray in her grief killed her husband and then hanged herself from the balcony of Graymount House.

Some locals have claimed to see her figure hanging from the balcony, a vision that vanishes quickly. Her haunting is better known along the lane itself, where she is said to ride on horseback along her old route. People report the soft sound of hooves, glimpses of a silhouetted rider and cold drafts.

The account is folklore and no record confirms any of the deaths.
