A factory on Havana Street in East Belfast was long believed to be haunted by the spirits of an elderly couple who had died many years earlier. One night a watchman was reading quietly in a small room when he suddenly felt he was being watched. He looked up from his book and saw the couple standing silently in the doorway, smiling gently at him. They stayed for an unnervingly long time before fading away without a sound. The watchman, frozen throughout, ran the moment they vanished.
The area is also said to be haunted by a British soldier killed in the Second World War, in one of the Belfast air raids, when the position he was manning was struck. Witnesses have described a confused, dishevelled figure in military uniform wandering the area, thought to be the fallen soldier, still searching for bearings he never regained.
