The Girl Who Saw Her Own Double

Near Bragar (Bragir), Lewis

Reported c. 1695

Her parents consulted Morison. He asked whether she had been taught her religion, and finding she had not, told them to teach her the Creed, the Ten Commandments and the Lord's Prayer, and to say the last every day after her prayers. Morison and his family also prayed for her. After that, and with the girl following the advice, she never saw the vision again.

This is a very early Hebridean account of a double, or what later folklore calls a fetch or taibhs. Martin presents it as part of his chapter on second sight and is relying on a named witness.
