St John's Gate is the last surviving medieval gate of Bristol's city walls, on Broad Street, and the White Lion pub stands next to it.
The Spooky Bristol ghost walk guide says the White Lion has a ghostly reputation. Cellar barrels roll across the floor by themselves, and footsteps echo up the stairs when nobody is there. Outside, a spectral watchman with a swinging lantern is seen pacing his patrol.
The guide gives no dates and no witnesses, and it contains some details, such as phantom applause at the O2 Academy, that appear nowhere else. This makes it a weak single source, so the record is dubious and may be revised.
