The Lady at the Window at Cassillis House

Cassillis House, near Maybole

Legend; ghost report undated

The Faa story is a ballad legend that attached itself to the Cassillis family (see the Maybole Castle record) and is thought by historians to be fiction. The 'dule' or dool tree was the tree where a lord of the manor could hang offenders, and Wikipedia says the Cassillis one was found to be about 200 years old when its rings were counted after it fell, which is too young to have been the tree of a 16th- or 17th-century hanging.

The ghost claim comes from a newspaper list of South Ayrshire hauntings. Cassillis House was reported as being for sale in 2016 and is a private property, so the window cannot be visited.

Cassillis House is private property.
