The Black Cat at Sheriffhall and Eskbank

Sheriffhall roundabout, Eskbank and the North Esk

9 January 2002 and 24 September 2002

The first report was forwarded to the Scottish Big Cats site after an Evening News article. The driver said the cat was bigger than a German Shepherd, with a long tail, and moved with its body low and head forward as if stalking. He watched it for a few minutes and said he had heard of other sightings around Dalkeith.

The second was an emailed report of a sighting at about 8.15 pm lasting six to seven seconds, with a body about three feet long and a tail of similar length, at the edge of a field bordering woods sloping down to the North Esk. The moderator noted that the size stated seemed larger than the man's dog, though he had described it as similar. The Esk valley acts as a wildlife corridor.
