The White Lady of Dalzell and the Whinney Burn

Peel Tower and Whinney Burn gorge, Dalzell Estate, Motherwell

19th-century setting; undated sightings

The two versions of her death differ sharply and neither cites a record. Suicide of a pregnant servant and immurement are both standard elements of British ghost stories. The Peel Tower is the oldest part of the house and stands above the burn, which fits the setting of the leap.

The house is now divided into private flats. The surrounding Dalzell Estate is public parkland.
