The Spice Ship is a pub on the Weymouth waterfront. Spooky Isles says it has many ghostly appearances, including unusual sounds in the middle of the night and beer taps that suddenly switch on.
The central legend is of a Portuguese sailor who perished about 200 years ago off the shore. In the days when inquests were often held in nearby pubs, his remains were brought to the Spice Ship. His ghost is said to roam the tavern looking for shipmates who all went missing at sea, and to have yanked an earlier landlord out of bed and thrown him to the floor.
Dorset Live gives the date as the early 1800s. Using a pub as a temporary mortuary for drowned sailors was genuine historical practice, which makes the story plausible, but I could not find the inquest record or the sailor's name or ship, so it remains a pub legend. The pin is on the harbour area, not the exact building.
