The Witches Stone in the Howff

The Howff, Dundee

Modern tradition

The word 'supposedly' matters: there is no reliable record that Jaffray was buried in the Howff, and a woman burned for witchcraft would not usually have been given a grave in a kirkyard. The stone's name is a recent custom, part of the modern memory of Dundee's witches.
