Dundrum Castle stands above the village of Dundrum on the shore of Dundrum Bay. It was built near the start of the 13th century by John de Courcy after his invasion of Ulster. Ghostly apparitions of soldiers are said to be seen inside the ruins, particularly around the tower. Some visitors say they have heard clashing swords and cries of battle echoing through the night, and a spectral knight is said to appear on moonlit nights and patrol the walls.
A separate telling in a list of haunted Northern Ireland castles says the castle is haunted by the ghost of de Courcy himself. Neither account gives a date or a named witness.
