The Red-Eyed Figure of Cold Hesledon

Also known as: Pemberton Arms lane sighting

Lane leading from the Pemberton Arms, Cold Hesledon

10 October 2009

A directory of Durham haunted places files this under cryptozoology. The witnesses, a couple on a dark country lane leading away from the Pemberton Arms, saw a figure around seven feet tall, black and man-shaped, with striking glowing red eyes. They watched it for about fifteen seconds before it let out a scream and dropped out of sight.

No names, investigator or follow up are given, and the listing says there is limited historical background for the spot beyond the nearby pub. A previous record on this site, the Phantom Postman of Consett, has similar rural roots, but this one is modern and tied to an exact date.

I have tagged it single_report. It reads like a first hand report relayed through a sightings database, with the date being its best verifiable feature. The pin is estimated from the village rather than the lane, so treat it as approximate.

A public lane near the village; take usual care walking after dark.
