The sighting is one of a handful of recent, loosely documented UFO reports from Edinburgh rather than a well-investigated case. On the evening of 22 April 2025, a West End resident identified in press coverage as Shirley Anne noticed an unusual object in the sky above Donaldson's School, close to Haymarket, and stopped to watch and record it. Her account describes a discrepancy that turns up in a number of UFO reports: what she saw with her own eyes looked triangular, with pointed projections she likened to wings, while the same object filmed and photographed on her phone appeared circular instead — a mismatch she herself found as puzzling as the sighting.
No aircraft, drone or other conventional explanation was confirmed to account for what was seen, and the sighting was picked up by at least one Edinburgh news outlet shortly after it happened. As with the large majority of UFO reports in this register, it rests on a single witness account and unverified personal photography rather than instrumented data, and is presented honestly on that basis.
