Martin's Ravine is a wooded, sheltered gully running steadily down to the beach at Filey, forming part of the town's coastal parkland and serving as a genuinely popular walking route for both locals and visitors alike. On at least two separate occasions, once in August 1996 and again in 2018, more than twenty years later, visitors have independently described a strikingly similar experience while walking through it: a sudden, complete silence falling over the entire ravine, as though the ordinary background noise of the nearby coast had simply been switched off without warning, paired with a sharp, noticeable drop in temperature severe enough that people reported being able to see their own breath despite the season.
The repetition of this very specific and genuinely unusual combination of symptoms, an abrupt silence paired with sudden cold rather than any visual sighting of a figure or apparition, across two reports separated by more than two decades is one of the more genuinely interesting features of this particular case within the wider collection.
Even so, this remains two isolated accounts rather than any kind of well-documented, sustained pattern of reports, and no explanation or backstory has ever been offered locally to account for why this particular ravine, out of all the coastal parkland around Filey, should apparently produce this precise, unsettling effect on the two separate occasions it has actually been reported.
