Fillingham Castle is a country house in the small village of Fillingham, north of Lincoln, deliberately built with castle-like battlements despite never actually having served as a genuine medieval fortification, an entirely ornamental gesture toward an older, more martial style of architecture. Local ghost lore attaches two quite separate figures to its grounds, each drawing on a genuinely common English ghost archetype rather than offering anything unique to Fillingham specifically.
A Green Lady, said in the various retellings to have taken her own life at some point in the building's history, is reported seen around the house after dark, her colour and her tragic end both following a well-worn pattern found at country houses right across England. Separately, a horseman riding a pale horse is reported crossing the surrounding parkland at night, a phantom rider glimpsed briefly moving through the grounds without any name or specific history ever attached to him.
Both stories appear to be house-specific versions of very common English ghost archetypes, a coloured lady and a phantom rider, rather than genuinely distinctive local inventions, and neither is tied to any documented historical event or named individual in the sources available. It is included here as a traditional but genuinely thin-detailed local haunting, its two figures recognisable types rather than developed characters with stories of their own.
