In June 2007, a report emerged from woodland near the hamlet of Gentleshaw describing a hairy humanoid figure roughly seven feet tall, said to have pursued a vehicle for some genuine distance along the edge of the trees, an aggressive, sustained encounter rather than the brief, passive glimpse more typical of most cryptid sightings gathered throughout this collection. This stands as one of several British Bigfoot-style reports clustered around the wider Cannock Chase area, sitting alongside a broadly similar account from nearby Hopwas Woods, and like most such reports, it survives today as a single secondhand account without photographic evidence, a named witness, or any formal follow-up investigation on record.
A separate, considerably older story attached to the same general area of Gentleshaw concerns a former windmill that once stood on the site, where two children are said to have tragically suffocated in flour, an entirely different kind of tragedy from the modern hairy humanoid sighting. Their restless spirits, along with what local tradition describes as a more sinister accompanying figure, are said to still roam the area where the windmill itself once stood, long before its physical remains disappeared entirely.
Gentleshaw, in that sense, carries two genuinely distinct and unrelated strands of strangeness within a fairly small area, a modern cryptid encounter from 2007 layered over a much older, considerably darker piece of local tragedy involving the vanished windmill, the two stories sharing a location without ever actually connecting to one another in any of the sources that record them.
