The Arlingham phantoms

Also known as: Phantom funeral of Arlingham; Mrs Budge

Arlingham, Severn bend

1757 and 1902; others undated

Haunted Hosts gives Arlingham, on a bend of the Severn, four entries. A funeral procession phantom is dated to 1757, which is one of the oldest dates in the Gloucestershire list.

A grey lady in a long grey dress is said to haunt Slowwe House, with poltergeist activity. Near the parish church and vicarage a little old lady in black with a white lace cap is reported, and in 1902 the church is said to have seen the ghost of a Mrs Budge in Victorian housekeeping dress.

Phantom funerals were often treated as omens of a death in the parish, though the listing does not say that here. No witness names are given for any entry, and it is not known whether the entries describe the same figure.
