The small brown man of Poolway Colliery

Also known as: Coal scuttle creature, Coleford

Poolway and Coleford, Forest of Dean

1926

Haunted Hosts lists two entries dated 1926. One places a small brown man-like creature at Poolway Colliery, and the other describes a small man-like figure in a coal scuttle in a building in Coleford.

The listing does not say who saw the creatures, whether the two reports are the same incident, or what was made of them. Forest of Dean folk belief includes the Fair Folk and the Little People of the Dean, and pwca, according to a local folklore page, so a miners' little-person tradition is plausible, though nothing found links these two reports to it directly.

Poolway is a hamlet in the Forest, and the exact spot is not given, so the pin is approximate. Treat it as a very thin 1926 report.
