Gwent Police was formed in 1967, bringing together the Monmouthshire Constabulary and the Newport Borough Police, and its headquarters was built at Croesyceiliog on the north side of Cwmbran.
According to the Great British Ghost Tour, people standing to the left of the reception entrance have seen the ghost of a senior officer from the time of that change, either one of the last officers of the old Monmouthshire force or one of the first of Gwent Police. He is not named.
The same page lists several other Cwmbran stories: a council house in the Charston area of Greenmeadow in the 1970s with smells, footsteps, door handles turning and a grey hand with red stripes seen in a mirror; a smiling figure in a bedroom in the new town; and a pool in the hills to the north, called the Pool of Avarice, where the cries of those buried by a landslide are heard on stormy nights. Those are too vaguely located to map separately.
