Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker

Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, near Nantwich

Cold War era origin; haunting reports modern

Hack Green began life as a Royal Air Force installation before its Cold War conversion into a hardened regional government bunker, built to keep a functioning arm of government running in the event of nuclear war. That original purpose — designed for secrecy, built to withstand catastrophe, decommissioned and later reopened as a museum — has given it an atmosphere that lends itself easily to ghost stories, and the site has attracted enough attention to be featured twice on the paranormal television series Most Haunted.

The reported haunting centres on the bunker's main corridor, where visitors and paranormal investigators describe seeing uniformed figures, consistent with the kind of military and civil-defence personnel who would once have staffed the facility. As with most Most Haunted-associated locations, the reports should be read in the context of a site actively promoted for its ghost-hunting appeal, and no specific named individual or documented death is attached to the story in the sources available — but the bunker's genuine Cold War history gives the tradition at least a plausible institutional backdrop.

Operates as a museum open to the public on a paid basis.
