The connection between the well and the chapel is a documented type, since wells commonly stood beside early churches and took their dedication. Catherine of Siena died in 1380 and was canonised in 1461, so a dedication to her in the 14th century would be unusually early, and the name may be later than the well or may refer to another Catherine.
