The Boar Vault and the Stolen Bride of Kingencleugh

Kingencleugh Castle, near Mauchline

Legend, set in 1253

Wikipedia gives this as a local legend, and on its face it is a romance in which the 'apparition' is a stratagem, not a reported ghost. The tunnel between the castles is itself a 'ley tunnel' tradition, common in Scotland and seldom found. The record is included as part of the folklore of the district and tagged as dubious. Kingencleugh Castle is a ruin above the River Ayr.
