Hauntings

The Kingfisher Centre Haunting

Kingfisher Shopping Centre, Redditch

The Kingfisher Centre is Redditch's main indoor shopping centre, built as part of the town's postwar new-town redevelopment, an entirely modern commercial building with little outward suggestion of anything unusual beneath its ordinary retail floors. Local ghost lore claims the ground it now stands on was formerly a graveyard, a common enough explanation reached for whenever unexplained cold spots and strange figures are reported in redeveloped town centres right across England, and one that is genuinely difficult to verify from any of the sources actually repeating the claim.

Reported sightings describe a large, largely transparent figure seen soaring or moving above the heads of ordinary shoppers going about their day, accompanied consistently by an unexplained drop in temperature felt by those nearby at the same moment.

No date, no precise location within the centre itself, and no corroborating historical record of an actual graveyard ever having occupied the site has been traced anywhere, and this entry is included here as a thin, commonly repeated piece of town-centre folklore rather than as anything resembling a documented haunting, the Kingfisher Centre's floating figure remaining, for now, entirely a matter of local rumour rather than confirmed local history.
