Dynevor Street runs from the centre of Merthyr Tydfil towards the area that in the nineteenth century was known as China, or Chinatown: the most notorious district in Wales, described at the time as "a den of drunkards, thieves, rogues and prostitutes", where even police were said to fear to go. It was cleared long ago, but its reputation has lingered in the streets around it.
On Dynevor Street stands the Kirkhouse Memorial, a building of 1940 that later became a nightclub called Koolers. According to Claire Barrand of Spooky Isles, it has had an incredible amount of paranormal activity reported over the years and has attracted paranormal investigators. The reports she lists are dark figures described as "not of this world", strange mists, and the spirits of young children. The children are explained by the belief that earlier buildings on the site included a school or an orphanage, though that is given as a thought rather than a fact.
This is a modern haunting known from a single write-up, with no named witnesses or dates.
