The Buller Road sighting was recorded by Graham Hall of LUFORS and published in the Leicestershire UFO Research Society archive. It came to light after he wrote a UFO article for the Leicester Mercury and appealed for witnesses to come forward, however old their memories. The woman who wrote back was a lifelong Leicester resident who had been 39 and living at 31 Buller Road with her mother at the time.
On a dry, clear, windless night in the second half of October 1954, probably the 21st, she was drawing her bedroom curtains at the back of the house when she saw an oval object gliding extremely low above the rooftops at what she called a gentle cruising speed. She said it had three square, lit windows along its side, and that she could see a slim man in what looked like a one-piece black siren suit and balaclava, touching something with his fingers. She ran to the other side of the house, saw him again apparently walking about and bending down, and then watched the object and figure vanish over the rooftops opposite. Her mother saw most of it too.
She estimated the object at about 30 feet long and 15 feet wide, silver or grey, with a faint throbbing felt as it passed almost overhead and a rolling motion from side to side. She had no interest in UFOs before the sighting. The date is not exactly remembered, there is no corroborating witness beyond her mother, who has since died, and the report was taken down decades afterwards, so the account is best read as a single recalled report. The same archive records a second Leicester sighting of the same month about a mile and a half away, at Fosse Road North.
