The Big Cat Around Linlithgow

Also known as: Beast of West Lothian

West Linlithgow and the A706

1994 to 2002

The August 2001 witness first thought it was a black Labrador but noted the head was smaller and rounder and the body more refined. A domestic cat close by looked about half its size. The July 2002 witness, who said he watched wildlife, saw it about forty yards ahead at 8.30 in the morning on the straight above Brunton Farm and thought first of a fox, but it was larger, browner and had a long, round, non bushy tail and a cat-like lope.

A police spokesman in the October 1995 Breich story recalled an elusive giant cat seen strolling across Linlithgow golf course the previous year. A separate report of October 2001 places a puma-like cat on the road between Linlithgow and Bo'ness, though that route runs partly outside West Lothian.
