The Mull Directory says it does not bark or growl, and that it is said to appear before accidents, shipwrecks or deaths within the clan. It cites a nineteenth-century diary that mentions a sighting just days before a fishing boat went down off Carsaig, and another from a year of sickness. I could not find the diary or any older printed source for the Lochbuie black dog, and the story may be a modern combination of the Hugh of the Little Head omen with the general black dog tradition, so I have tagged it dubious.
