Hauntings

The Watergate Street poltergeist, Deptford

Watergate Street, Deptford

1994

The report comes from the Woolwich and Charlton Mercury in 1994, later reprinted in the Fortean Times, and was brought back into circulation by the Old Deptford History website and the Transpontine blog.

The householder described eerie footsteps, doors slamming and a mirror that flew through the air, and said she saw a ghostly little girl with blonde curly hair. The disturbances reportedly ended after Gary Stock, a medium from Thames Street in Greenwich, intervened.

Neither retelling gives a house number, the resident's name or any independent witness, so the pin is only a point on Watergate Street. It is a single newspaper report and is tagged accordingly.
