The Claybury asylum apparitions at Repton Park

Also known as: Claybury Hospital

Repton Park (former Claybury Hospital), Woodford Green

Hospital 1893 to 1997; reports since conversion

Claybury Hospital was opened in 1893 as a psychiatric asylum, and until 1997 stood at Woodford Green. The site is now Repton Park, a large housing estate, with the old hospital buildings converted. The Ilford Recorder lists it among Redbridge's haunted places.

According to that report, today's residents have reported seeing apparitions of past inmates appearing on their wards, hearing scratching at their front doors, and hearing disembodied voices.

The article gives no dates or named witnesses, and no investigation, so these are general resident reports with an obvious cultural pull, since former asylums attract ghost stories. They are tagged single report. People who lived and worked at Claybury were real patients and staff, and the entry is included on that understanding, with no claim about who any apparition might be.

Residential estate; the grounds are partly accessible.
