The Monifieth Lykewake Prank and the Missing Corpse

Monifieth

Late eighteenth century

Crowe's account says it was asserted by everybody acquainted with the locality that the removal of the body was impossible by any recognised means, because no one would have dared. The story has the marks of an improving tale but gives the name of a real schoolmaster and author.

Angus Folklore classes it with explained or hoax phenomena and dates it to the late eighteenth century.
