Nick Wirsten was travelling to work at 10.40pm along the Selkirk to St Boswells road, which he had driven for over three years. Coming over a blind rise into a dip beside the Murdermoss, with a fir forest on his right and open fields on the left, he saw two glaring eyes at the roadside in his headlights. A large cat like creature, dark in colour, leapt the fence as he slowed. He said it looked like a puma.
He turned round a few hundred yards on and came back, and shone a torch into the field but saw nothing. He returned by daylight next morning and found no trace. A woman had reported a cat like creature about a mile away four weeks before and had been teased about it, so he told only his family. He also said there was a report near Bowden not long after. The place is approximate, described only as beside the Murdermoss on that road.
