The MacCodrums of the Seals

North Uist (no specific place given)

Undated oral tradition

He ran home with one of the skins and hid it above the lintel of his door. The owner followed him. He dressed her in human clothing, married her and had a family by her. In time she found the skin again and went back to the sea.

This is the selkie wife story, here applied to a named family. Campbell does not say where on the island the family lived. The Uist bard MacCodrum, whom he quotes elsewhere, belonged to the same name.
