Mansie Rich and the Peedie Folk at the Dwarfie Stane

Dwarfie Stane, Hoy

Traditional tale, retold by Muir

The peedie folk are the trows. Tom Muir, a storyteller linked with the Orkney Museum, recounts Mansie Rich's meeting with them at the Dwarfie Stane on Hoy. Their leader is called Himself.

The tale of Magnus Ritch in Trowie Glen has the same sort of ending, with tobacco smoke putting the trows out of action. Mansie's pipe smoke drove the small folk off.

The tale is as told in a modern retelling. I have not seen the original source. The Dwarfie Stane has other stories, which have their own record.
