The Ghosts of Plas yn Rhiw

Plas yn Rhiw, above Porth Neigwl (Hell's Mouth)

The oldest part of the Plas yn Rhiw ghost lore is the simplest: the sound of an old man's footsteps and his cough, heard in the house when no one is there. Ghost-site versions identify him as an eighteenth century squire, a reprobate who drank himself to death and still walks the stairs looking for another bottle. No squire is named.

The second ghost is a young woman, heard weeping and sometimes seen in a white dress. The story told about her is that she was a Victorian daughter of the house who ran off with a tinker, chased by her furious father. The couple got as far as Holyhead, meaning to take the boat to Ireland, and there the tinker left her without a penny. She never came home. Later residents are said to have heard her crying in what had been her bedroom.
