The Nun Buried Upright on Inchmahome

Inchmahome Priory, Lake of Menteith

Traditional; undated

The story is repeated in a couple of guides, always briefly, and with no date, name or documentary basis. The priory itself is real, and was a refuge for the young Mary, Queen of Scots in 1547, and Robert the Bruce visited it.

The island is reached by boat from the Port of Menteith.
