St Cooey's Wells, Portaferry

St Cooey's Wells, Portaferry

Reports since the 1990s

St Cooey's Wells at Portaferry are old wells in a quiet corner of the countryside, long regarded as a place of ancient significance. Since the 1990s witnesses have described hearing disembodied voices, faint and indistinct, drifting across the site when no one else was present, and seeing fleeting apparitions near the wells that appear for a moment and fade.

One medium who visited said she met the spirit of a fisherman called Paul. According to her, Paul knew he had died but did not want to leave, saying the wells were peaceful and comforting and that he preferred to stay close to them rather than move on. The entry notes this may be taken as genuine contact or simply as part of local lore.
