Reasty Hill lies in the forested hill country north of Scarborough, near the village of Harwood Dale, an area of plantation woodland and open moor that has produced a genuine scattering of unusual sightings over the years. In 1957, witnesses reported a glowing, disc-shaped object over the hill itself, and in the immediate aftermath of the sighting a disc marked with unfamiliar symbols was said to have been discovered somewhere in the area, though no physical object or clear provenance for it actually survives in the record as far as can currently be established.
The case has the shape of a genuinely classic period UFO story, an aerial light followed by a claimed physical artefact, from an era when reports of exactly this kind were common right across Britain and were rarely followed up with anything resembling rigorous formal investigation.
It is recorded here as a genuine period report rather than as any kind of verified incident, the glowing disc over Reasty Hill and its supposedly recovered symbol-marked fragment standing as one more example of the many unresolved 1950s UFO stories that continue to circulate without ever quite producing the hard evidence that might finally settle the question one way or the other.
