Coxe wrote that people crossing the moor behind Rhossili sometimes report "a horrible feeling of timeless watching and menace" and describe the air as "full of evil foreboding". According to the Great British Ghost Tour's summary, locals suggested the cause might be the ghosts of the Stone Age people who once lived and buried their dead on the hill.
There are no named witnesses and no apparitions. The Down is high, bare and exposed, with the whole of Rhossili Bay below it and mist that comes in from the sea, and a sense of unease on it in poor weather needs no supernatural explanation. It is included here because it is part of the recorded ghost lore of Gower, and because the Down's ancient cairns give it a genuine connection to the long dead.
