By April the Privy Council heard the women had been unreasonably apprehended and imprisoned, and subjected to pricking, watching and suggested other tortures, and it worried that at least one had been unfairly executed. Five more women were held locally under the same treatment. Sixteen local men were reprimanded and the remaining women were sent to Edinburgh. The paper says the well-known witch pricker John Kincaid was ordered into the Edinburgh tolbooth on the suspicion that many innocents had suffered at his hand. Four of the accused were executed and the fate of the other five is unknown.
