Mackenzie gives the story as a companion to the dream brief, in a chapter on tales around the Seer's time. The setting is Edinburgh and London, not Ross-shire, and the only link to the Highlands is that Sir George held Rosehaugh on the Black Isle. It is placed there. The help from a ghost with a legal tip is a standard type of legal ghost story, and the report is marked dubious for that reason.
