Dead Man's Graves

Between Walberswick and Blythburgh

Undated burials; investigation 2003

Suffolk author Robert Halliday told a society in 2024 that in 2003 he investigated an area between Walberswick and Blythburgh known as Dead Man's Graves. It was believed to be where young men who committed suicide were buried, and the site aroused considerable interest.

He was accompanied by a BBC team making a programme. According to the report of his talk, the BBC equipment mysteriously stopped working at the point of the Dead Man's Graves.

The report is brief and there is no further detail on the programme or on what failed. Burial of suicides outside consecrated ground is well documented in England, but I could not confirm the precise location of the graves or find a second source, and the pin is approximate within the heath and marsh between the two villages.
