Lucy of the Shakespeare Hotel

Shakespeare Hotel, Chapel Street, Stratford-upon-Avon

Undated legend; reports in recent decades

The Shakespeare Hotel stands in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon on Chapel Street. Spooky Isles tells a story that before it was a hotel the building was home to a girl named Lucy and her uncle, who abused her and later killed her.

Her body is said to have been hidden in the brick walls of a part of the building now known as room 203. Guests and staff are said to have seen a shadowy figure that looks like a girl in the room. One member of staff was reportedly badly wounded by what is believed to be the girl's cat, said to be buried beside her in the wall.

No date, surname or record of a murder is given, and the source states the account as belief rather than history. It reads as a pub and hotel legend, tagged accordingly.
