The monk of the Waterside Inn

Waterside Inn, Shoreham Beach

Undated; recorded 2012

A 2012 blog about Shoreham's ghosts says the Waterside Inn, across the harbour mouth on Shoreham Beach, is haunted by a monk who has been seen wandering about from time to time.

The blog explains the haunting by saying the pub was built on the site of a former priory connected with the Knights Templars. That is the only reason given, and the claim about the priory could not be confirmed from a second source, so it should be taken as part of the legend rather than as established history.

No date, witness or particular sighting is named. The monk is a stock figure and the pub's own history has not been checked here. The pin is an estimate for the Shoreham Beach area, not the exact building.

Check the pub's current status before visiting.
